Backlash Forces Google to Ditch Anti-Gay Shooting Game, 'Ass Hunter'

After a backlash over its virtually murderous, anti-gay app, Google has removed a game from the Android store that advocates killing gay men for sport. The game, titled 'Ass Hunter,' was downloaded more than 10,000 times before it was removed.

CNN Money reports that the game had been available online for several years, but was recently added to Google's lineup of mobile apps.

"Legendary game, where you are hunter and your mission is to kill gays as much as you can or escape between them to the next level. Gays may be hidden in bushes and unexpectedly catch you. Remember! When they catch you they will do with you whatever they want," read the description.

But Twitter users expressed outage that the game had been offered on Google play, and urged other users to flag it as inappropriate. Twitter user @chadwikz wrote, "This is disgusting! App allows you to hunt & kill Gays. Flag as inappropriate! No room for HATE!"

Google has established rules against "hate speech" and games that encourage "violence and bullying," but said it does not review apps before posting them to the Android store.

"We remove apps from Google Play that violate our policies," said a spokesperson in a statement. Perhaps it's time to review that policy.

The Independent writes that in the game, players control a hunter with a shotgun who must kill naked men before they approach him. If they are able to reach him then the game shows a cartoon depiction of the men having sex with the hunter.

The game was first uploaded on November 5.

"Popular game hunting on gays is now on android!" the description read. "Play and do not be gay!" That description remains cached on Google, though the page has now been taken down. Cached versions of the original site continue to be held by Google.

In June 2013, Facebook disabled a game that allowed users to play an anti-gay game that recreated the violent attacks on Gay Pride marchers in Tbilisi, Georgia. The game, called "In Call of Taburetka, or "Call of the Stool," allows players to control a priest, who beats LGBT activists with a stool.
