"Drag Race" and "We're Here" alum Shangela posted a response to a lawsuit leveling the latest accusations of sexual assault at the drag star, Rolling Stone reported.
"On Monday [Feb. 24], Eric Poff, who performed under adult film pseudonym Dakota Payne, filed a civil lawsuit against the performer, whose real name is Darius Jeremy ('DJ') Pierce, in New York's Supreme Court," Rolling Stone detailed. "Poff accused Pierce of sexually assaulting him in October 2017 while filming the film 'Hurricane Bianca 2.'"
According to Poff, he was given a drugged drink and blacked out.
Poff's suit, People Magazine relayed, states that Poff "has no memory of events between consuming the drink and becoming semi-conscious in a hotel room."
Poff claims that the hotel room was Shangela's, Rolling Stone detailed, and that he regained his senses even as he was being sexually assaulted by the performer and another man.
Shangela spoke out against this latest allegation, which comes after a lawsuit brought by former "We're Here" production assistant Daniel McGarrigle was dropped last year.
Five other accusers emerged after McGarrigle's claims with allegations of their own; at least one of them had a story similar to Poff's. As EDGE previously reported, "A 27-year-old accuser named Helmer reportedly filed a 2023 police report in Los Angeles and said he was 20 years old when they met in 2017. He remembers, 'waking up completely naked on a bed and believed to be at Pierce's residence after dinner and a mojito.'"
Rolling Stone had reported on those allegations at the time.
When Helmer asked Shangela what had occurred, Shangela told him that they had engaged in a threesome with "another guy that you brought in." Helmer asked for more details, including the name of the other participant, and, the report said, Shangela told him "he did not know, 'but you were really into it.'"
Added the previous EDGE report: "Addressing a second accuser named Edward Ramirez, who claimed Shangela attempted to force penetration when he was 21 in 2018, Shangela's lawyer claimed that there are three people who can 'attest that Mr. Pierce and Mr. Ramirez were never alone together'."
Shangela took to Instagram on Feb. 25 to speak out about the new allegations, Rolling Stone relayed, posting, "I started off my week super grateful for life, texted with my mom, repacked my drag bag, and just been minding my own lil gay business."
"Then here comes some BS."
"I'm advised to stay silent, and I'm doing my best to continue on without engaging in a back and forth with dishonest people seeking money or a moment," Shangela's post went on to say, before adding that while "NONE of these false claims have ever prevailed against me" the consequences had been significant: "my career, my character and even my family have suffered."
"Their goal is to characterize a successful Black, gay drag queen as a threat," the drag performer went to add. "But my goal is to never let evil win. I will continue to fight back with the truth, and with time, I know the truth will prevail."
Poff's lawyer, James Vagnini, responded in turn.
"If he's looking to blame someone, he should start by looking at his own behavior over the years," Rolling Stone quoted Vagnini saying in a statement. "It is his actions that have led him to this day."
"This is about one thing and one thing only," Vagnini added: "justice for survivors and shedding light on sexual violence in our community."
