A Florida man is in trouble after letting his homophobia get the best of him during date night.

Investigating police say Alexander Nicholas Fanjul was allegedly upset after being sat next to a gay couple at a restaurant. So upset Fanjul was that he had a hard time getting past it and enjoying his dinner, People reported. When his dinner date suggested that he "drop the subject," Fanjul reportedly got enraged and assaulted her when they got back home.

Fanjul, 38, is of the family that owns the Florida Crystals, one of the largest sugar producers in the country. He was arrested on Jan 28 after police responded to an alleged domestic violence call to a residence in Palm Beach, Florida.

When police arrived to the residence, they allegedly found Fanjul standing over a woman who was lying on the floor in a fetal position, according to the affidavit.

Fanjul was reportedly "increasingly irate" as he continued to express his disapproval when he arrived home with the woman. When the woman did ask him to move on from the subject, Fanjul allegedly began punching and kneeing her in the face, according to the affidavit. He then allegedly grabbed her purse and her hand, which was holding her phone. He allegedly broke the phone while it was in her hand. The woman then began screaming for help as Fanjul began dragging her into the home.

The affidavit also alleged that Fanjul choked her while inside the house and blood was found in the home.

People reports that Fanjul has been charged with domestic violence, false imprisonment, robbery, harassing a victim and cocaine possession, among other charges.

Fanjul was released on Jan. 30 on bond, according to jail records.
