A beach popular with gay men in Italy has been named the world's second-best spot for skinny-dipping.

To celebrate the end of summer, MyDatingAdviser.com ranked 100 of the top skinny dipping locations across the globe.

The number two spot, Spiaggia Della Lecciona, situated on the banks of the Ligurian Sea in Tuscany, Italy, has been a popular gay beach since the 70s and is one of the region's last free beaches, with no admission charge and no permanent deckchairs or umbrellas allowed. According to MyDatingAdvisor, Spiaggia Della Lecciona has an average air temperature of 84F and an average water temperature of 77F. The average cost of a hotel per night in the area is $185.

Spiaggia Della Lecciona beach was topped on the list only by Lokrum Island in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

Third place went to Maslin Beach in Adelaide, Australia.

In the U.S., the Washougal River in Washington State is the top location, with picnic rocks and flowing streams.

The Praia de Galhet is the best location in Brazil, with white sand beaches and a naturally preserved area.

To determine the best skinny dipping locations, MyDatingAdviser compared 100 nude beaches across the globe to determine the best locations to enjoy a skinny dip.

"This is my declaration to the world to have fun and skinny dip! The past year has been difficult and we have all experienced lockdown, grief, and disruption to our normal lives. There is nothing more liberating and joyful than a skinny dip," said MyDating Adviser Managing Editor Amy Pritchett. "If you have the opportunity to visit a beautiful skinny dipping spot, then it's worth stripping down, enjoying nature, and having a splash! Remember it's not a big deal, and if the water is cold, even better!"

In this study, the beach quality, safety, weather, and lodging were taken into account. This was across metrics of skinny-dipping friendliness: pollution, Blue Flag status, weather, air temperature, water temperature, safety, and hotel cost.

Using the data points, each location has been given a 'Skinny Dipping Index Score'. This represents the quality of the skinny dipping experience that you could have at the location.

8 Tips for Your Next Trip to a Nude Beach

1. Be respectful and have discretion. We agree the human body is a beautiful thing but give people the opportunity not to look at you if they don't want to.

2. Don't forget sunscreen and bug spray. You don't want to get a sunburn in that spot that usually doesn't see the light of day.

3. Don't skinny dip drunk. A little liquid courage could help you get naked. But if you are completely drunk, it isn't safe to swim and could land you in a dangerous situation.

4. Beware of leeches. With a bathing suit, they are one thing, and when you are stark naked it's another.

5. Make sure your friends are comfortable. If everyone is happy to strip down, then go for it.

6. Keep your eyes on people's faces. Interact as you normally would and keep physical contact to a minimum.

7. No photos. If only celebrities and politicians could learn this too.

8. It's not a big deal. Get over yourself and have fun. Remember that not even swimsuit models look like that in real life. So, relax and enjoy being naked.
