Out singer Adam Lambert has teamed with some collaborators to work on a new musical that will be set in the 1970s.
"The 39-year-old singer appeared on the Brenda, Call Me podcast with Courtney Act and Vanity, where he first spoke of the new musical," reports UK newspaper the Daily Mail.
"With this musical I got paired up with amazing songwriters, so I'm approaching it like a pop album...but it's still a musical," Daily Mail reported Lambert saying.
The 39-year-old teased the new work will be "pretty diverse" musically, and said that "it's the life story of an actual person, and it's not me!
"The majority of the story takes place in the '70s," Lambert said.
Lambert declined additional details, noting that no official announcement had been made...but said he's "collaborating with great people," and promised "it definitely is rock and roll!"
Lambert did talk about his creative ambitions, saying he was interested in getting "'more into the acting world," Daily Mail said. Lambert auditioned for a part in the recent remake of "A Star is Born," which cemented Lady Gaga's career as an actress as well as singer-songwriter. He had hoped to play Ramon, a friend of Ally, the character played by Lady Gaga's, but Anthony Ramos was cast instead.
"It was so funny to me, because they told me about it, 'She's going to have like a gay best friend,' " Lambert recalled.
The hitmaker, who has sold millions of albums since his career was kick-started by his near-win on "American Idol" in 2009, has already racked up a few credits, the article note, including having voiced "Emile in 'Ratatouille: The Tiktok Musical,' " as well as having "a guest starring role in 'Moonbase 8,' " a Showtime comedy about astronauts. He's also done voice work on "The Playmobile Movie" and a cameo in "Bohemian Rhapsody."
Lambert continued, saying he is "starting to become interested in planting seeds in the creative space where it's not necessarily for my own music, but other projects, behind the scenes...be a producer, writer or consultant.
"There's definitely some stuff in the works. I'm getting geared up for that,' he added.
