The San Fran LGBTQ Center Commemorates TDOR

A coalition of local nonprofit partners and transgender community will be commemorating the 19th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) on Monday, November 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the SF LGBT Center in San Francisco.
TDoR is a solemn tribute to those transgender and gender non-conforming individuals who have lost their lives to transphobia, racism, hatred, and prejudice. The day's purpose is to raise awareness of the threat of abuse and violence faced by the transgender community, as well as their families, friends, and allies.
Trans community members are under siege across the country and continue to be murdered in unprecedented numbers, specifically trans women of color. In 2017 alone, at least 25 transgender Americans have been killed, making it one of the deadliest years for the community.
Among the event speakers is Raquel Willis. Willis is a Black queer transgender activist, writer and media maven dedicated to inspiring and elevating marginalized individuals, particularly transgender women of color. She is a National Organizer for Transgender Law Center, the largest organization in the U.S. advocating on behalf of transgender and gender non-conforming people. She was a featured speaker at this year's Women's March.
The event also features Sister Roma, the most outspoken and recognizable member of the infamous Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a blessing by Holy Old Man Bull, performances by Mikaela Kendrick, and more. El/La Para Translatinas will be building a community altar to honor those we have lost, and Transgender and Intersex Justice Project (TGIJP) will be hosting a breakfast to build solidarity and resiliency.
