NYC Pride Unveils 2026 Theme "For All of Us," Honoring Marsha P. Johnson's Legacy Amid Global Threats to LGBTQ+ Rights

NYC Pride | Heritage of Pride, the organization behind New York City's official Pride events, announced its 2026 theme on January 23, 2026: "For All of Us. The theme draws directly from a quote widely attributed to Marsha P. Johnson, a pioneering LGBTQ+ activist and Stonewall veteran: "There is no pride for some of us without liberation for all of us.
The selection of Johnson's words reflects a deliberate choice by NYC Pride to center the experiences and struggles of the most marginalized within the LGBTQ+ community. According to NYC Pride's statement, "As our trans and non-binary siblings face a growing wave of hateful attacks at every level of government, this year's theme recalls the queer trailblazers who came before us — and centers the ongoing fight on the most marginalized among us. The theme also honors the legacy of the first NYC Pride March in 1970, which commemorated the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising.
The announcement arrives during a challenging period for Pride events globally. Many cities have scaled back or cancelled Pride programming in response to political opposition and reduced corporate sponsorship. Pride events have been scrapped in Tampa, Florida; Tucson, Arizona; and Arlington, Texas, among other locations. NYC Pride itself reduced programming last year following a significant decrease in corporate sponsorship revenue, driven partly by concerns about potential backlash from the current administration.
Despite these headwinds, NYC Pride remains committed to hosting its signature events. Im Lynde, NYC Pride Executive Director, stated: "LGBTQ+ Pride events are under attack around the world, but NYC is determined to march on. We invite our LGBTQIA+ community from near and far to join us in the birthplace of Pride as we continue the fight for LGBTQIA+ equality — for all of us.
The 2026 NYC Pride calendar includes three core events. Youth Pride will take place at the South Street Seaport at Piers 16 and 17 on Saturday, June 27, 2026. The main NYC Pride March and PrideFest, the largest LGBTQ+ street festival in the United States, will occur on Sunday, June 28, 2026.
NYC Pride welcomes over 2. million spectators annually to the Pride March, with more than 75, 00 individuals marching. The organization's mission centers on working toward a future without discrimination where all people have equal rights under the law through LGBTQ+ Pride events that inspire, educate, commemorate, and celebrate the diverse community.
Additional events and programming details will be announced in NYC Pride's 2026 Pride Guide, available on May 22, 2026, at nycpride. rg/pride-guide. The organization encourages community members to donate and volunteer to help protect NYC Pride for future generations.
